Celebrity Prostate Cancer Survivors

About 300,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer each year. With one in six men contracting the disease in his lifetime, many of these cancer patients and survivors are public figures and celebrities. Several of these people have come forward to talk about their illness:

Arnold Palmer – “Don’t let anybody ever tell you, ‘Oh, when you get to be 50 or 60, you need to start having a PSA test.’ A 29-year-old had prostate cancer, and he’s living and healthy now because they discovered it early, and they could do something about it”

Joe Torre – “It later became very clear to me that you need a spouse or a good friend to be there for you, to keep you on level ground and to give you hope. Otherwise, saddled with the cancer diagnosis, it becomes so easy to think of your cancer as some sort of a dark hole, and that there is no way out for you.”

Rudy Giuliani – “My father died of prostate cancer. But I came to the realization that I was a very lucky man. The time that I was really in danger was the day before I knew I had prostate cancer. Now that I knew what was going on in my body, I could do something about it.”

Colin Powell – “Early detection is the best weapon we have against this silent killer.”

All four of these men were diagnosed with cancer early and went on to beat the disease. It is never too early to get screened for prostate cancer a the Chicago Prostate Center. Check out our website for more information.
