Men – have you had a rectal exam and your PSA checked? 1 in 6 men will get prostate cancer. It is very curable if detected early. At the Chicago Prostate Cancer Center, we recommend that men have both a yearly prostate specific antigen (PSA) blood test & digital rectal exam (DRE) beginning at age 50. African-American men and men with a family history of the disease should begin testing at age 40.
It’s important to know your PSA levels. In general, a healthy PSA level range is between 0-4. Patients should seek further testing when the PSA level is above this range or increases between tests. It is important to note that PSA testing is very individualized & what is considered abnormal for one patient may be normal for another.
