Recently Dr. Brian Moran was in San Francisco at the Annual American Society of Therapeutic Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) meeting. ASTRO’s Annual Meeting is the premier radiation oncology scientific event in the world and draws more than 11,000 attendees each year. Dr. Brian Moran of Chicago Prostate Cancer Center presented on focal therapy for prostate cancer using seed implant (LDR permanent prostate brachytherapy). Focal therapy is a newer concept where only the part of the prostate gland that has cancer is treated, rather than the entire gland, reducing toxicity and side effects. Chicago Prostate Cancer Center will be starting a focal therapy trial in the very near future.
